What this site is

An independent information site. It explains schemes, costs and choices in plain English and, if you ask, passes your enquiry to relevant independent firms. We do not carry out, supervise or guarantee any work, and we are not a government body, a scheme administrator or a regulated financial adviser.

Information, not advice

We check our figures against the sources we cite and date them, but schemes, prices and rules change. Treat what you read here as general information. Confirm eligibility with the scheme itself, get written quotes, and take professional advice (tax, legal or financial) where your decision depends on it.

Firms you are introduced to

Any contract you make is between you and that firm. They are responsible for their quotes, work, guarantees and conduct. Check their registration and insurance yourself before you agree to anything; our guides explain which register to look up.

Scheme information on this site

This site describes loft insulation schemes run by other bodies: ECO4 (energy suppliers, regulated by Ofgem), LA Flex (councils), the Warm Homes: Local Grant (councils in England), Warmer Homes Scotland and the Home Energy Scotland Grant and Loan, Nest in Wales, and the Affordable Warmth Scheme in Northern Ireland. We summarise their published rules and link to the source, with the date we read it. Those bodies decide eligibility and can change their rules at any time; where our summary and the official source differ, the official source is right, and we would be grateful if you told us.

Our route checker gives an indicative answer from the rules as published. It is not an eligibility decision, it does not reserve funding, and it sends nothing to anyone.

Figures, estimates and examples

Costs, savings and payback figures come from the Energy Saving Trust's published tables, with the fuel-price date they use. They are averages for typical homes and unsubsidised installation. Your own quote, saving and payback will differ. Our estimator divides the published cost by the published saving; it is arithmetic, not a quotation. Anything labelled "Illustrative example" describes an invented household built from those published figures, not a real person, home or job.

Checking the firms yourself

We do not endorse, rate or guarantee any installer. Before agreeing to any loft work, check the business on the TrustMark register and its Competent Person Scheme, get written quotes, and never pay a fee to reserve a grant.

Our liability

We are not liable for losses arising from reliance on general information on this site or from the acts of firms you choose to deal with, except where the law does not allow that liability to be excluded.
